"The Unexpected Everything" book review

synopsis: Andie had her summer planned to the point because if everything was planned out you can never find the unexpected, well almost. When the unexpected happens and her summer plans are ruined because of her father's current work situation they both end up being stuck at home and forced to deal with each other. Andie and her father, Senator Walker, were once close but that was before her mother died of ovarian cancer. Her father chose to accept his grief by getting absorbed into work which weakened the bond between his daughter and himself. They barely know each other anymore and had know idea what happened in each other's daily lives and so Andie is better acquainted with her friends who she spends most of her time with. Wanting to be doing something with her life and not wasting her summer, she goes looking for a job and ends up walking dogs but it isn't as bad as it may seem when Clark pops up into her life and joins that big group of friends of hers. But then trouble rises, doesn't it always, and Andie fights to keep this summer perfect but is her will good enough.

review: this book was intense and sentimental but still light and relaxing enough that it felt perfect for the summer. it focuses on the joy in life when everything is unexpected and friendship which is rarely the main idea of a book. Morgan Matson nailed it by showing that not everything is destined to stay as it is even if there was a good ending, good doesn't have to mean same it could also mean different.

style of writing: Morgan Matson's style of writing consists of this slow beginning where everything seems not good enough but then four or five chapters in you can't put the book because everything just suddenly clicks. Her books are contemporary and one of the best at that, they are also quite informal which fits in perfectly with her summer themed books especially this one.

recommendation: the style of writing worked very well with the story considering it was summer themed and contemporary. It was well written and so I give it a 4.5 stars out of 5. the reason i did not give it a full 5 stars was because there were a few points in the story where I felt either the moment was too abrupt or was a bit too long, also its lack of quotable lines bothered me.
